Prishtina has its own airport, but many visitors find cheaper or better-timed flights into Skopje in North Macedonia or Tirana in Albania. Both work well as gateways. Skopje is closer, while Tirana has direct buses from the airport itself. Here is how each route works, with fares as published by the airports, bus stations and operators in October 2026. Timetables change with the seasons, so check the current one before you travel.
Skopje or Tirana: which is easier?
From Skopje airport, Prishtina is about 110 kilometres by road through the Blace (Hani i Elezit) border crossing, according to the airport's official taxi price list. There is no direct bus from the airport, so you either take a taxi the whole way or go into Skopje and catch a bus from the main bus station.
Tirana is further away, roughly three to four hours by bus, but there are direct buses and shuttles from the airport to Prishtina, so you can make the whole trip without going into the city.
From Skopje airport by taxi
The airport's official taxi service publishes a fixed fare of 4,900 denars, or 80 euros, from the airport to Prishtina. That price list dates from February 2024, so confirm the fare before you set off. It is the simplest option if you land late or are travelling as a group.
From Skopje airport by shuttle and bus
The airport shuttle into the city is run by Erak Transporter and costs 199 denars one way. Its stops include Skopje's main bus station at Nikola Karev 20. Fares on this route are in Macedonian denars, so have a little local currency with you.
From the bus station, several buses a day run to Prishtina. On a weekday in mid-October 2026 the station's timetable listed nine departures between 08:00 and 18:10, and seven on the following Sunday, with a one-way fare of 650 denars. The journey takes about two hours, according to the booking site Gjirafa, plus any wait at the border.
From Tirana airport
Direct buses run from Tirana airport to Prishtina bus station throughout the day. In October 2026 the booking site Gjirafa listed around 20 departures a day from operators including Amalfi, Arbeni Tours and Kei-Reisen, with fares of around 20 euros and journey times of three to four hours.
The airport's own website lists GoOpti as its shuttle partner to Prishtina, with fares across its routes starting at 14 euros. GoOpti shuttles must be booked online in advance.
From Tirana city
If you are spending a few days in Tirana first, buses to Prishtina leave from the city's East bus terminal (Terminali Lindor), where international and Kosovo services now depart. Gjirafa lists around 25 departures a day, at around 20 euros and just under four hours.
On the Kosovo side, the Route 7 motorway covers the 102 kilometres from the Morinë border crossing towards Prishtina.
The border
Both routes cross an international border, so keep your passport or ID card to hand. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality, and Kosovo now asks foreign visitors to register their address within three days of arrival. Our guide to Kosovo entry requirements covers both.
Summer is the busy season at the crossings. Albanian border police counted more than 45,000 Kosovo citizens entering Albania at Morinë in about 27 hours in late July 2026, so allow extra time in July and August.
Driving a hire car
If you rent a car in Skopje or Tirana, check that the company allows it to be taken into Kosovo and what it charges. Policies vary, and Enterprise, for example, lists a cross-border fee at both airports. Kosovo is outside the Green Card insurance system, but the Kosovo Insurance Bureau accepts Green Cards from North Macedonia and ordinary Albanian motor insurance. Confirm with the rental company that the car's insurance is valid in Kosovo.
Arriving in Prishtina
